Normally, this removal tool is downloaded via Windows Update and runs silently in the background to check for infections on the computer. It runs a quickscan for the worst infections, but what if you would like to use the removal tool to run a more thorough scan of your computer. Microsoft’s Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit (EMET) is a simple but powerful configuration utility that allows you to harden applications that weren’t originally designed to take advantage of Windows security features.

A new zero-day security hole in all versions of Windows is the subject of “targeted attacks,” Microsoft says. The flaw, according to Microsoft Security Advisory 2488013, occurs when an attacker exploits “the creation of uninitialized memory during a CSS function within Internet Explorer.” The result? “It is possible under certain conditions for the memory to be leveraged by an attacker using a specially crafted Web page to gain remote code execution.”

Similar holes have been spotted in the past in applications such as Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash, and Apple’s QuickTime.

This .avi demo is a little more than twice the size of the .flv file shown below.  It does, however, include the credits. This is a STILL from the original. Note the difference in image quality.

The video was made with the webcam and saved as an .avi file.  Using Windows Live Movie Maker, I added the titles, credits and the caption. The graphics added in Movie Maker were lost with the conversion to a .flv file.  After it was saved as an .avi file, I used a program to convert the .avi file into a .flv file, which you see here.  The quality is not as good as the original .avi, of course, but it's easy enough to do for a simple Videocast embedded on a BLOG page.

If you have a portable Laptop like me without CD/DVD drives, you can still install Ubuntu from a USB drive with UNetbootin, a free utility that lets you create bootable Live USB drives for a variety of Linux distributions. UNetbootin runs from within an existing Windows or Linux operating systems. This is a great and useful utility for folks with devices that don’t have CD/DVD, but want to install Ubuntu.



Installing UNetbootin:



The first thing you need to do is install UNetbootin in Windows or Linux systems. Download it from here.

For this tutorial, I’m going to download the Windows version to create our Live USB boot drive.
