This utility allows you to easily turn on one or more computers remotely by sending Wake-on-LAN (WOL) packet to the remote computers. When your computers are turned on, WakeMeOnLan allows you to scan your network, and collect the MAC addresses of all your computers, and save the computers list into a file. Later, when your computers are turned off or in standby mode, you can use the stored computers list to easily choose the computer you want to turn on, and then turn on all these computers with a single click.

Turn Off Your Twitter Junk Mail | Gadget Lab | Wired.com
One of the things I love about Twitter is that it can function as a crude, low-grade email replacement. But you know one thing I hate about Twitter? It sends more unnecessary email than your mom after her second bottle of wine. What the heck is up with all that email, Twitter? For a better experience, turn that nonsense off.
It’s an easy fix. Log into Twitter.com and head over to your Settings — click on the thing that looks like a gear. Next, click on Email Notifications.

After you install Windows 8.1, you will be asked to sign in to a Microsoft Live account. There will be no apparent way to move past that screen if your intention is to only have a local account. Here is the trick: Click the Create New Account link and then at the bottom of that next screen you will see a link that will let you cancel the process. You will then login using your local account.

Windows Update Cleanup Saves Huge Disk Space in Your Root Drive | Next of Windows
The update only works on Windows 7 with service pack 1 and above, meaning that in order to take great advantage of this new update, you will need to install service pack 1 on Windows 7 systems, if you haven’t done so. One thing you need to be aware of is that once you run Disk Cleanup wizard to have all windows update cleaned up, you won’t be able to roll back to a superseded update.

TeraCopy for Microsoft Windows - Code Sector
TeraCopy is designed to copy and move files at the maximum possible speed. It skips bad files during the copying process, and then displays them at the end of the transfer so that you can see which ones need attention. TeraCopy can automatically check the copied files for errors by calculating their CRC checksum values. It also provides a lot more information about the files being copied than its Windows counterpart. TeraCopy integrates with Windows Explorer's right-click menu and can be set as the default copy handler.

Review: GAG the Graphical Boot Loader - TechRepublic
Incidentally: Also, if you have a particularly old office PC that still uses a trusty floppy disk drive, GAG can even install the boot loader directly to a blank floppy disk. Honestly though, the utility of this feature is rather limited for boot loader backup purposes, in the unfortunate event that your Master Boot Record is destroyed on the main hard drive. Alternatively, you can simply use the bootable ISO (albeit without a customized menu on disc) or write GAG to a bootable USB flash drive.

- PixabayA site that provides free, public domain images that don't even require attribution. Unfortunately, it also offers Shutterstock images, which aren't free, but they are clearly set off so I don't think users will find that too confusing.
- Public Domain Image ResourcesWikipedia maintains a page of online resources for finding public domain images and other content online. While not all of the sites include exclusively public domain images, this list is a good place to start looking for content, particularly if you are looking for more specialized items.
- Getty Open Content ProgramThe Getty recently started an Open Content Program to "share images of works of art in an unrestricted manner, freely, so that all those who create or appreciate art…will have greater access to high-quality digital images for their studies and projects." You can find these images by conducting a search on the Getty Search Gateway and then filtering your results by checking the box next to "Open Content Images", which is the second option in the Highlights section of the filters in the left menu. All images found through this program should be credited as "Digital image courtesy of the Getty's Open Content Program" (see http://www.getty.edu/about/opencontent.html).
- RijksmuseumImages on the Rijksmuseum website are fully searchable and downloadable. Each item that has entered the public domain includes this information in the section of the item description entitled acquisition and rights.
- Yale University Art GalleryThe Yale University Art Gallery has stated that, pursuant to the University's Open Access policy, "anyone may use the Gallery’s open-access material without further application, authorization, or fees due to the Gallery or to Yale." Unfortunately, at this time, there is no way to limit search results to only items that are in the public domain, however, when you click on an item, the entry will state whether the image is in the public domain (see image). You can find more information on properly attributing images on the Art Gallery's Terms of Use page.

A ‘no-reformat reinstall’ for Windows 8
Along with File History, Win8′s backup/restore system has two new components: Refresh your PC without affecting your files (“Refresh” for short) and Remove everything and reinstall Windows (“Remove”).
Refresh is a nondestructive reinstall that restores Win8′s core system files to factory-fresh condition. It can strip away deleterious changes caused by application installations, bad settings, data corruption, and so on.
