unsent messages in outbox

Using Windows live mail in Win7
I was getting error that I could not send email when I quit live mail. There were NO messages in outbox folder to delete to stop error. I went off line using cmd prompt, by typing ipconfig /release
then I opened email again and there was the unset message, which I deleted, then I went on line again with the cmd window by typing ipconfig /renew
After that, everything was OK.
