Oh, woe is me. I'm saddened, disappointed, frustrated again

The  group has let me down. My reputation is in tatters.  My name has been associated with a certain group for many years, and now the powers that be have turned my Alma mater into a shell of itself in its heyday. Do I dare re-enter, take the reins, and subject myself to twice the work I did in the former years, or do I hope for a turn-around and a restructuring of those now in charge?  It may be best for my mental health to turn my back and silently and sadly let things slide deeper into the mire.
