PdfMasher
PdfMasher For propeller heads.
PdfMasher is a tool to convert PDF articles (newspaper, academic) to MOBI or EPUB documents. Most ebook readers support PDF files natively, but it's often a real pain to read those documents because we don't have font size control over the document like we have with native ebooks. In many cases, we have to use the zooming feature and it's just a pain. Another drawback of PDFs on ebook readers is that annotations are not supported.
There are already tools to convert PDFs to ebooks like Calibre, but what they do is that they try to guess the role of each piece of text in the PDF (and that's if you're lucky). I think that in all but the simplest cases, it's a mistake to think that anything short of an AI can do that kind of guessing.
Enter PdfMasher. PdfMasher asks the user about the role of each piece of text, and does it in an efficient manner. Your PDF has a header on each page and you don't want them to litter your text? Sort text elements by Y-position (thus grouping them all together), shift select the elements and flag them as ignored. They will not appear on your final HTML. Your PDF has footnotes on many pages? Sort your elements by text content (thus grouping all elements with the text starting with a number together) and flag them as footnotes. They will be moved to the end of the document, and PdfMasher will try to create hyperlinks to footnote reference

Don’t Fear the Internet
Don’t Fear the Internet
Are you a print designer, photographer, fine-artist, or general creative person? Do you have a shitty website that you slapped together yourself in Dreamweaver in that ONE web design class that you took in college? Do you not have a site at all because you’ve been waiting two years for your cousin to put it together for you? Well, we’re here to help. We know that you have little to no desire to do web design professionally, but that doesn’t mean that you want an ugly cookie-cutter site or to settle for one that hasn't been updated since Hackers was in theaters. Through short tutorial videos, you’ll learn how to take a basic wordpress blog and manipulate the css, html (and even some php!) to match your aesthetic. You’ll feel empowered rather than crippled by the internet and worst case scenario you’ll at least end up having a better idea of how professional web designers turn your design dreams into a reality on screen.

Disable Avira nag screen - MajorGeeks Support Forums
disable that pesky, annoying, aggravating, obnoxious nag screen that Avira AntiVir shows you whenever it does anything at all. I finally found out how to do it in my XP install.
1. Go to the Control Panel
2. Open the Administrative tools and then open "Local Security Policy".
3. Highlight Software Restriction Policy on the left side.
4. Then right-click "additional rules" on the right side and pick "new path rule"
5. Click the Browse button and find the avnotify.exe fle. It should be in the folder C:\Program Files\(Avira)\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\
6. In the drop-down below, select "Disallowed", and then click your way back to the desktop via the Apply and OK buttons
A little tricky to do this on a WIN 7 machine, but using the instructions, above, I managed to find everything I needed and make it work. -tp

Some things TO BUY at Amazon:
Surprising Things to Buy
While you can get just about anything you want on the site, what are the standouts you may not have thought of? We spoke to analysts, retailers, and shoppers themselves to discover some surprising categories.
Auto Parts
Easily searchable by make, model, and year, Amazon's Auto Store offers more than 4 million car, truck, and other vehicle parts to DIYers, enthusiasts, and professionals. "Many of the products offered by Amazon are fulfilled and shipped by brick-and-mortar automotive parts stores and warehouses," says Richard White, senior vice president of the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association."That is how they are able to offer such a vast assortment of product." There are 3,800 parts for the 1968 Pontiac Firebird alone, for example, and nearly 2,000 for a 1990 VW Cabriolet.
Computer Peripherals and Accessories
Cables, thumb drives, external hard drives, and other computer accessories aren't routinely evaluated by computer magazines. But they are amply and (sometimes) succinctly "reviewed" by thousands of Amazon.com shoppers. That critical mass of opinion saves you the time and the energy of doing the research yourself. "If there are 150 four-star reviews, that's big information you can go with," says Scott Stein, senior editor at CNET.com. And that same review crew flushes out subpar products and vetoes them just as concisely. Plus, Amazon's prices on these items are typically 10 to 20 percent lower than competitors. A recent study by Internet analyst Mark Miller of William Blair found that Amazon and Best Buy's retail stores have a merchandise overlap of nearly 70 percent, and 87 percent of those items sell for less on Amazon.

Pillarbox - Chrome Web Store
Pillarbox - Chrome Web Store
Description
Pillarbox is a neat fullscreen text editor along the lines of WriteMonkey or WriteRoom. Except that it lives in your browser for some reason. Disregard this. It's designed for long writing sessions free from distraction, not for taking quick notes. Want to set up camp and get some writing done? Here are some cool things about Pillarbox: • It has typewriter scrolling -- try it. You'll love it. And if you don't, you can turn it off. • It's 100% offline. No internet connection needed; no data stored on some scary server somewhere. • It autosaves every ten seconds and whenever it closes. You can also manual save, if you're paranoid like that. • It's got a live word count. • You can set a word count goal and it'll tell you when you reach it. • It's got a built-in writing timer. • Appearance is fully customizable (with a live preview). • You can use any font installed on your computer, not just web-safe fonts. • Know some CSS? Add your own custom styles. Do crazy things to the UI. • Spell check as you type. Or not. It's an option. • Friendly UI. No keyboard shortcuts to memorize; everything is available from the toolbar (everything is available via keyboard shortcuts too, but you don't have to use them).

allofcraigs.com - Search ALL of Craigslist
Allofcraigs has a posh landing page that offers a textbook execution of a GIF, but the question is this – does it actually work? Well, I’m happy to tell you that besides it being just a pretty face, the site does exactly what it is supposed to do. Just punch in what you are searching for, and sure enough, Allofcraigs will search all of Craigslist and then present to you your search results from all over the country (or in a specific region).
Besides scouring Craigslist, Allofcraigs will actually run searches in Craig’s competitors, such as Kijiji and Backpage. Furthermore, the site offers a Firefox add-on and a Chrome extension among a few other items.
